Citizenship Tax

The concept of Zionist citizenship has not yet grown deep roots in our camp. Yet the success of Zionm depends to a considerable extent upon the success of this concept. For what is Zionism if not a political movement striving to implant in the hearts of its supporters the concept of citizenship, the loyalty and devotion to its aims which themselves are good citizens? Signs of this civilian awareness are very common with other peoples, wherever the citizen meets up with them. The Zionist Movement has been opposing this for thirty years, and as a symbol of its stand it has created the shekel. Who can be faithful to the rebirth of the Jewish nation in the political sense, yet not understand that broadening the base of the civilians of our Movement by means of the shekel is a necessary precondition for the realization of Zionism?

The World Zionist Organization turns to Zionists of all kinds and streams to make every attempt to render the shekel important in the public eye and to bring it to the status of a citizenship tax in the Zionist State. Every Zionist should know, that by spreading knowledge of the shekel amongst the Jews he is preparing the groundwork for Zionist citizens and drawing the Zionist state closer . Every person engaged in spreading the shekel should realize that he has entered a partnership with the Zionist Organization in its tremendous efforts for the building of our National Homeland.
